(SBU) Embassy Tokyo Political Officer spoke with Ministry of
Foreign Affairs Ocean Division Principal Deputy Director
Yukiko Okano on August 18 and scheduled a meeting for August
23 to deliver reftel demarche. Okano said that she had
already received word from the Japanese Embassy in Washington
DC that this demarche would be forthcoming. Japan is still
considering its position internally and has yet to formulate
a final answer. She expected further discussions on ReCAAP
in the next few days and hoped to have a more concrete answer
for us by August 23.
