SUBJECT: INVITATIONS TO MEFTA TRADE AND INVESTMENT
CONFERENCE

1. Ambassador conveyed reftel talking points on the November
3 MEFTA Trade and Investment Conference to Minister of
Commerce and Industry Hassan Fakhro during a September 12
meeting for visiting Commerce DAS Holly Vineyard. Fakhro
welcomed the conference, asked about U.S. company
participation, and looked forward to more details about
participants as they became available. In a meeting on
September 13 with senior officials at the Economic
Development Board, EDB Deputy Director Zakaria Hijris
confirmed that Bahrain's U.S.-Bahrain FTA Implementation
Committee would contribute $15,000 towards the cost of the
conference.

2. Per ref B, the Ambassador has sent a letter to King Hamad
formally inviting him to be a keynote speaker at the event.
