requesting U.S. support for Chile's candidacy to the United
Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). Paragraph two
contains Post's informal translation of the Note.

Ministry of Foreign Relations

The Ministry of Foreign Relations - Directorate of
Multilateral Policy - presents its compliments to the Embassy
of the United States of America and has the honor to inform
that the Government of Chile has decided to present its
candidacy to the Economic and Social Council of the United
Nations (ECOSOC) for the period of 2010-2012, in the
elections that will be held during the 64th session of the
United Nations General Assembly in 2009.
The Government of Chile fully agrees with ECOSOC's
objectives: promotion of higher standards of living, full
employment and economic and social progress, facilitation of
cooperation in cultural and educational areas, and promotion
of universal respect for human rights and fundamental
freedoms.
The Ministry of Foreign Relations, taking into consideration
the excellent bonds of friendship and cooperation between
both countries, requests the valuable support of the
Government of the United States of America for the
above-mentioned candidacy.
The Ministry of Foreign Relations - Directorate of
Multilateral Policy - avails itself of this opportunity to
renew to the Embassy of the United States of America the
assurances of its highest and most distinguished
consideration.
