1. (U) The Government of Tanzania (GOT) appreciated
learning the USG position regarding the June 2008 election of
Director General of the International Organization for
Migration (IOM). Justin Seruhere, Acting Director of the
Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Multilateral Affairs Department,
told Poloff on July 20 that he knows Ambassador William Swing
personally through their work in Western Sahara and commented
that Ambassador Swing's experience is a good match for the
job at IOM.

2. (U) Seruhere asked the USG to provide a diplomatic note
formally requesting GOT support for Ambassador Swing's
candidacy; Poloff assured Seruhere further communications on
the matter would be forthcoming before the June 2008
election.
