SUBJECT: CZECH REPUBLIC SUPPORTS USG PRIORITIES AT
COMMUNITY FO DEMOCRACIES MINISTERIAL

REF: STATE 98670

Poloffs delivered reftel demarche July 20 to MFA Transition
Promotion Unit's Olga Hajflerova. Hajflerova noted that the
Czech Embassy in Washington, DC was working closely with the
Department in preparation for the November 2007 Community of
Democracies (CD) Ministerial in Bamako. The Czech Republic
concurs with all USG priorities for the ministerial. Czechs
will push to retain the agreement and consensus reached in
the June CD Convening Group meeting, support not inviting
Venezuela, and extend only observer status to Russia and
Nigeria. The Czechs will not only formally support a joint
proposal to invite Taiwan as a special guest to the
ministerial but has decided to be the ones to propose it.
