SUBJECT: NEW ZEALAND - DEMARCHE DELIVERED: U.S. CANDIDACY TO ICAO
COUNCIL
REF: State 115443
1.) Reftel information regarding the U.S. Candidacy for ICAO Council
was delivered August 18, 2007 to New Zealand's Ministry of Foreign
Affairs and Trade (MFAT) and the Ministry of Transportation (MOT).
The Ministry of Transportation informed the Embassy that it has the
statutory responsibility for administering NZ's participation in
ICAO. Although there was no immediate reaction by GNZ officials to
the U.S. candidacy, post will forward any response or comments we
receive after MOT has had sufficient time to consider the request.
2.) In regards to the second question in reftel, the NZ delegation
to the upcoming ICAO assembly will consist of:
-- Glen-Marie Burns, Manager Aviation MOT (Chief Delegate),
-- Kathy Perreau, Manager Environmental Sustainability MOT,
-- Peter Davey, Manager Policy & International, Civil Aviation
Authority; and
-- Leslie Macintosh, Chief Legal Counsel CAA.
