Poloff telephoned Maldives Ministry of Foreign Affairs
Assistant Director for UN Affairs Ahmed Shiaan on September
20 to follow up on ref b demarche. Shiaan confirmed on
September 26 that Maldives has decided to support the U.S.
candidate. He said the MFA would soon forward an official
response to the Embassy.
