SUBJECT: NIGER: GOVERNMENT ENTERS CYBERSPACE

1. The Government of Niger (GON) announced the launch of two
websites on September 11, 2007, connecting government
institutions and the Presidency to cyberspace for the first
time. Both websites (French language) are still a work in
progress, but reflect a step forward for the GON institutions.

2. The GON website lists a page for the President, Prime
Minister, First Ladies, each Cabinet Ministry, other major
institutions (such as the National Assembly), the
constitution, former heads of state, among other things.
Currently, the GON President's page is the only one that
contains a biography. The other GON officials' respective
pages show their name and photo (without biography) and, in
some cases, lists the official's relevant ministry's mandate.

3. The websites follow.

For the GON: http://www.communication-gouv-niger.ne

For the GON Presidency: http://www.presidence.ne

4. The website lead page lists a few blog sites for
institutions supportive of the GON's position with regard to
the security situation in northern Niger.
