SUBJECT: LATVIA SUPPORTS SPLIT-CURRENCY ASSESSMENTS FOR ICAO
TRIENNIAL BUDGET
REF: STATE 127689
1. PolEconOff delivered reftel points on September 14 to Arnis
Muiznieks, Director of the Ministry of Transport's Aviation
Department, and urged the GOL to support the addition of language to
the draft resolution that would establish the budget of the Council
of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) for the next
triennium (2008-2010). The draft language specifies that member
states would make assessed contributions in a combination of
Canadian and U.S. dollars. Muiznieks responded that the United
States can count on the GOL's support and added that contributions
in U.S. dollars was more convenient for the GOL as it is a commonly
used currency in Latvia.
