1. (SBU) On October 28, PolCouns conveyed reftel points to
Thamer al-Adwan, Director of the Foreign Minister's Private
Office, noting U.S. support for greater Arab engagement on
the Darfur issue, and urging that such contributions be in
support of existing international efforts. Adwan said that
on issues such as those now facing Sudan, Jordan has
preferred to work under a UN umbrella, observing that the GOJ
will be contributing police to the international monitoring
mission there.

2. (SBU) Adwan said he expects that Abd al-Salam al-Abadi,
Secretary-General of the Hashemite Charitable Organization,

will head the GOJ delegation to the conference, which will
also include the Jordanian Ambassador to Sudan.
