SUBJECT: MOROCCO VOICES SUPPORT FOR ADOPTION OF UNSC
RESOLUTION 1803

REF: STATE 21770

1. On March 14, POLOFF conveyed to Moroccan Ministry of
Foreign Affairs (MFA) Chief of the Security and Disarmament
Section Mr. Driss Rushdy reftel points concerning obligations
imposed on U.N. member states by the recent adoption of UNSCR
1803, which imposes further sanctions on Iran for its failure
to comply with UNSCRs 1737 and 1747 concerning its nuclear
program.

2. Mr. Rushdy accepted non-papers drawn from reftel on the
resolution and the accompanying P5 1 Foreign Ministers
statement and said that he would convey the information to
his superiors. Rushdy expressed Moroccan support for
adoption of the resolution, adding that Iran, as an IAEA
signatory country, must to live up to all of its
U.N.-mandated obligations. At the same time, he voiced
support for the right of all countries, including Iran, to
pursue peaceful uses for nuclear technology. He closed by
underscoring Morocco's hope that the impasse with Iran could
be solved peacefully through negotiations.
