2. "Guilty Ruling to Compound Political Stalemate" A
Bangkok correspondent for the liberal Asahi wrote
(10/22): "The Thai Supreme Court found former Prime
Minister Thaksin guilty of corruption charges and
sentenced him to two years of imprisonment. The ruling
is bound to embolden antigovernment forces that have
criticized Prime Minister Somchai as being Thaksin's
'puppet.'"
