(SBU) Post delivered ref A demarche to the National Bank of
Romania's (BNR) Director of the Banking Supervision Department,
Nicolae Cinteza, on November 18. Cinteza said that BNR is studying
the FATF statement and related recommendations post provided on
November 6 (refs B and C) and will be consulting with other
government agencies on appropriate action. Cinteza further advised
that by the end of the year BNR will establish within the Banking
Supervision Department a new office dedicated exclusively to
terrorism finance issues. He noted that BNR enjoys close
cooperation with Romanian intelligence services in monitoring
financial flows for possible connections to terrorism. Cinteza said
BNR will inform post of any additional measures taken.
