1. On November 19, the Spokesperson of the President's office
announced that President Abdoulaye Wade received a telephone call
from US President elect Obama. The following unofficial translation
of the press release that was issued and read on the evening news
broadcast of the Senegalese state television company RTS:

2. Begin Text:

"His Excellency President Abdoulaye Wade received a telephone call
today Wednesday November 19, 2008 at 19:30 from U.S. President elect
Barack Obama.

The conversation focused in particular on the cordial and friendly
relations as well as the positive cooperation between the two
countries.

President-elect Barack Obama expressed a positive appreciation for
Senegal and indicated his desire to work with President Wade to
pursue and strengthen the strong and privileged relationships
between the two countries.

The two leaders have also discussed global affairs regarding which
President Wade indicated that as Chair of the Organization of the
Islamic Conference, he looked forward to working with President
Obama for a peaceful resolution of conflicts.
