Per reftel, Post informed Aleksandr Pankin, Deputy Director of the
MFA's Department for International Organizations, of Brazil and
South Korea's expressed intentions to host a "Rio 20" sustainable
development summit. Pankin said he knew nothing of such a proposal
and could not comment on it. Likewise, Vladimir Zakharov, director
of the nongovernmental organization Center for Russian Environmental
Policy and Chairman of the Commission on Environmental Policy of the
Public Chamber under the President of the Russian Federation, said
he had heard nothing about the proposal. However, Zakharov said he
would ask his contacts in the presidential administration at his
next opportunity.
