(SBU) Ambassador wrote to Acting Foreign Secretary
Kariyawasam on December 11, explaining U.S. concerns about
the Secretary General's and the Fifth Committee's models and
requesting Sri Lanka's support for the U.S. proposal. Pol
Chief followed up with Director Geenral for Multilateral
Affairs Aruni Wijewardhana on December 15 and 17.
Wijewardhana said that she had consulted the Sri Lankan
delegation in New York, which had informed her that the
matter was also of current concern to the G-77 countries.
Wijewardhana told us that Sri Lanka would likely join any
G-77 consensus on the issue and suggested that U.S. mission
in New York contact the Sri Lankan representatives directly.
