(SBU) Poloff contacted Julian Juarez Cadenas, the Deputy
Director General for UN-Related Security and Legal Issues at
the Foreign Secretariat (SRE), to clarify that the U.S. was
not/not in a position to invite Mexico to be a member of the
contract group (ref. A). At the same time, Poloff stressed
that the USG appreciated Mexico's political support against
piracy in the region and looked forward to working with
Mexico on this issue next year as Mexico assumes its seat on
the UN Security Council.
