(U) Poloff delivered reftel demarche to Sarmite Danne, of the MFA's
International Organzitions Department. Danne stated that, in
general, the GOL supports the principle that the UN Secretariat must
be of the highest professional level and the GOL shares U.S. ideas
regarding fostering profssional growth, career advancement and staff
training. The GOL also encourages simplification of contractual
arrangements in the UN. Danne stated that priority should be given
to the conditions of service in the field. The GOL has recevied the
U.S. amendments in New York and the GOL's approach to them will
reflect the EU common position.
