SUBJECT: NAMIBIA: GPAF DEMARCHE SPURS FOOD SECURITY
DISCUSSIONS

REF: STATE 123480

(SBU) Emboff delivered reftel demarche to members of the
Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), the Ministry of
Agriculture, and the Ministry of Fisheries, and discussed the
concept of the Global Partnership for Agriculture and Food
(GPAF) with local representatives of the Food and Agriculture
Organization (FAO) and the World Food Program (WFP). As a
net food importer that relies heavily on regional neighbors
to feed its population, the GRN is likely to look favorably
on any initiative that will help Namibia lessen its
dependence on food imports. Most Namibian government (GRN)
officials expressed interest in learning more about GPAF.
