SUBJECT: UNGA 64 GOALS AND OBJECTIVES: RESPONSE TO DEMARCHE
REQUEST
REF: STATE 90254
1. DCM discussed the US goals and objectives for the 64th
UNGA in September 9 meeting with the Foreign Ministry's
Director General of International Organizations, Ambassador
Adolfe Nahayo, leaving an Aide Memoire of the main points.
Throughout the demarche, Nahayo appeared to be engaged and
supportive of US goals, demonstrating particular interest in
Peacekeeping and conflict management, UN budget, Sustainable
Development, Gender Issues and Environmental issues. Nahayo
did not, however, offer any substantive response to any of
the demarche points. He said that he would convey the Aide
Memoire to the Foreign Minister, and to others in Burundi's
UNGA delegation.
