SUBJECT: POST CONTACTS FOR MARINE SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH FOR
SRI LANKA AND THE MALDIVES

REF: STATE 101996

1. (U) Embassy Colombo covers both Sri Lanka and the
Maldives. The primary contact at Post to obtain host
government authorization of marine research vessels is ESTH
officer Ken Kero-Mentz (keroka@state.gov), with Econ Chief Ed
Heartney providing back-up assistance (heartneyep@state.gov),
both of whom expect to be in Colombo until summer 2012. PD
Chief Jeff Anderson (andersonjj2@state.gov) would manage the
PD angle of such visits. Local employee Adrian Mendis
(mendisa@state.gov) should also be included. Responses from
the host governments can be slow in coming. Post looks
forward to working with the Office of Oceans and Polar
Affairs to facilitate authorization as quickly as possible.
