2. "U.S. Cross-Border Attacks Reinforce Anti-American Sentiment" The
liberal Asahi wrote from Kabul (9/16): "Cross-border attacks on
Islamic armed guerrillas in northwestern Pakistan by drones operated

the Obama administration. Although the Pakistani government has
repeatedly condemned the operations, calling them 'violations of
state sovereignty,' the U.S. has hinted at expanding their scope. It
is almost certain that intensified attacks will unleash
anti-American sentiment among the Pakistani people. These attacks
could run the risk of adversely affecting bilateral [U.S.-Pakistan]
cooperation to combat terrorism."
