1. (U) The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) informed post via
dipnote (Ref A) regarding Malaysia's intention to seek re-election
to the Council of the International Maritime Organization (IMO)
under category "C" for the 2010 to 2011 term. The election will be
held during the 26th Regular Session of the Assembly of the IMO from
23 November to 4 December 2009.

2. (U) Post e-mailed a copy of the full text of the dipnote and the
Aide Memoire to the desk per ref A.

3. (U) Post delivered ref C demarche to Malaysian officials at the
Ministry of Transportation (MOT). They told EconOff per ref B that
Malaysia would carefully consider our request. Per ref C, Post has
explained to MOT officials that the USG does not announce its voting
intentions.
