SUMMARY

1. In October 2009, the Government of Nicaragua (GON) reported the
resolution of four Embassy registered property claims. To date,
the overwhelming majority of resolutions have involved compensation
via government-issued indemnification bonds ("bonos de pago de
indemnizacion" or BPIs). As of October 31, 2009, the GON had
issued BPIs with a face value of $359,906,310 to Embassy-registered
claimants. Since taking office in January 2007, the Ortega
administration has resolved 105 claims, ten of which during the
2009-2010 waiver year.

EMBASSY REGISTERED CLAIMS RESOLVED IN OCTOBER

2. On October 15, 2009, the Attorney General's Office provided the
Embassy a copy of the final settlement document, or finiquito,
signed by U.S. citizen Francisco Aguilar on July 8, 2009. Mr.
Aguilar reached an agreement with the occupant of his home. The
occupant paid him 202,000 cordobas, approximately $10,000. We have
updated our database to reflect this settlement.

3. On October 19, 2009, the Attorney General's Office provided the
Embassy a copy of a dictum stating that U.S. citizen Julio Fonseca
recovered his farm located in Leon. Mr. Fonseca's case represents
one property claim registered with the Embassy Property Office.

4. On October 8, 2009, the Attorney General's Office provided the
Embassy a copy of a letter authorizing disbursement of compensation
deposited in an escrow account for U.S. citizen Maria Carolina Law.
Ms. Law was offered compensation published in the Official Gazette
on July 22, 2008. Ms. Law received BPIs worth 1,400,000 cordobas,
approximately $67,690. We have updated our database to reflect
this settlement.

5. On October 23, 2009, the Attorney General's Office provided the
Embassy a copy of a letter authorizing disbursement of compensation
deposited in an escrow account for U.S. citizen Guillermo Pilarte.
Mr. Pilarte was offered compensation published in the Official
Gazette on May 28, 2009. Mr. Pilarte received BPIs worth 38,400
cordobas, approximately $1,856. We have updated our database to
reflect this settlement.
