SUBJECT: COLOMBIA DEFAMATION OF RELIGIONS RESPONSE

REF: STATE 122629

(SBU) Post delivered points in reftel at OOB December 7, 2009 to
Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) Director for U.S. and Canadian
Affairs Adriana Maldonado. We received an e-mail response from
Maldonado saying Colombia would continue to abstain on the
resolution. She mentioned that while the Government of Colombia
(GOC) shared many of the U.S. concerns, Colombia wanted to
continue a consistent vote on the resolution for which they had
abstained in the UNGA third committee. Still, she did mention the
GOC would consider the points expressed by the USG for future
General Assembly sessions.
