(SBU) On December 2, Poloff delivered reftel points to
delivered reftel points to Ambassador Patrice Cure, Head of
Multilateral Directorate - Political, Ministry of Foreign
Affairs. Per ref A action request, Poloff thanked Cure for
Mauritius' change of position from supporting to abstaining
regarding the resolution. Poloff also noted that Cure had
previously said that the change had been influenced by U.S.
arguments. Cure agreed that this was true, but stated again
it would be difficult to move to full opposition of the
resolution given the domestic political situation in
Mauritius. Cure said, however, that he would welcome more
information about the resolution, our position, and concerns
that he could review and forward to his colleagues in New
York and in Geneva accordingly. Post provided the non-paper
from the IO-Human Rights intranet website (in ref A) to Cure.
