1) Dozens Dead After Massive Flooding In East, West Timor 19/05/00 (Associated Press) DILI, East Timor - At least 48 people have died in floods that washed away refugee camps along the border between East Timor and the Indonesian-controlled western half of the island, U.N. officials said Thursday.

2) Leaders on trial? 19/05/20 (The Asian Wall Street) In recent days Indonesia's prosecutors have been busy men. Yesterday a court sentenced 24 soldiers and one civilian to prison terms of up to 10 years for a massacre in Aceh province last year. The day before, former head of the armed forces Gen. Wiranto answered questions at the attorney general's office concerning the violence after East Timor voted for independence.

3) Indonesia's East Timor Probes: A Whitewash? 19/05/00 (Straits Times) SINGAPORE - Former Indonesian military chief General Wiranto was grilled for more than seven hours on Tuesday by the Attorney-General's Office over his allegedly complicity in the devastation of newly-free East Timor last September.

5) East Timor football chief appeals for aid 19/05/00 (Agence France-Presse) KUALA LUMPUR - East Timor football officials on Thursday appealed for funding to help rebuild sports facilities left devastated in last September's militia violence.

9) Situation deteriorated In Viqueque 18/05/00 (UNTAET) DILI - The situation in Viqueque deteriorated after heavy rain overnight. Plans were to fully open the by-pass through the river to gain access to Viqueque town today, but the level of the water had risen dramatically, making the crossing impossible.

10) Regulation on media broadcasting 18/05/00 (UNTAET) DILI - The proposal includes the establishment of an Independent Broadcasting Authority, an autonomous entity that would be independent of the Government and, in accordance with international broadcasting standards, formulate and implement broadcasting policy.
