World-Wide A-Z Golden Gamble On Olympics

Media Release From William Hill

The Olympic Games is Attracting Gamblers From All Over the World To Place Bets Via the Internet on Athletes and Competitors From Their Countries

London, Sept. 21 /PRNewswire-AsiaNet/ -- Internet bookmakers William Hill (willhill.com) say they have opened accounts from clients in 159 different countries in time for the Games -- including two from Equatorial Guinea, home of swimmer Eric Moussambani whose heroic struggle to complete the 100 metres in the pool captured the imagination of sports fans world wide.

An A-Z of countries where punters are logging on to bet with Hills includes: Argentina; Belgium; Chile; Djibouti; Eritrea; France; Guam; Haiti; Iran; Jordan; Kazakhstan; Lebanon; Malawi; Netherlands; Oman; Palestine; Qatar; Rwanda; Seychelles; Tajikistan; Uganda; Vietnam; Western Samoa; X-patriates from many countries; Yemen; Zimbabwe.

"For the first time punters world-wide have access to Olympic betting via the internet, and we anticipate that there will be a record turnover as a result" said William Hill spokesman Graham Sharpe. "It is remarkable that we are taking bets from punters in almost as many countries as are competing in the Games. William Hill are offering odds of 7/2 that Great Britain draw a Gold medal blank in track and field; 6/4 that Great Britain win 2 golds; 7/4 one gold; 13/2 three; 20/1 four; 40/1 five; 100/1 six.

Jonathan Edwards is 4/7 favourite with Hills for the triple jump; Denise Lewis is 4/6 favourite to win Gold in the Heptathlon; Colin Jackson is 5/2 in the 110 metre hurdles; Steve Backley 8/1 in the javelin; Dean Macey 10/1 in the decathlon.

Steve Redgrave is now a 2/5 chance with William Hill to win his 5th Gold medal in the coxless fours.
