1) Indonesia says Timor Militias not disarming 28/09/00 (Reuters) ATAMBUA, Indonesia (Reuters) - Indonesia said some pro-Jakarta militias in West Timor were refusing to hand in their weapons despite Wednesday's deadline, raising the prospect of confrontation if police carry out a threat to seize arms.

2) Guarding profits in the Timor Gap 28/09/00 (Green Left Weekly) DILI - Negotiations on the future of the Timor Gap Treaty between the Australian government, UNTAET and East Timorese representatives are set to resume on October 9-11. Both the federal and Northern Territory governments have indicated that they are opposed to any change in the maritime boundary between Australia and East Timor in the latter's favour.

3) Timor statehood could take 2-5 years more: ex-Australian PM 28/09/00 (Kyodo) OSAKA - East Timorese statehood could take another two to five years because the current situation in the territory is ''extraordinarily difficult,'' former Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Fraser said in a recent interview with Kyodo News.

4) CNRT leaders form new social democratic party 28/09/00 (Green Left Weekly) DILI - The newest addition to East Timor's political landscape was declared formally at the National Council of Timorese Resistance headquarters on September 20: the Social Democratic Party (PSD).

5) New ferry service to link with Oecussi enclave 28/09/00 (UN Newservice) DILI - A new passenger ferry service will soon link East Timor to its Oecussi enclave in Indonesia.

7) Police gear to raid militia in West Timor amid reports of resistance 28/09/00 (AFP) JAKARTA - Indonesian police on Wednesday prepared to forcibly seize weapons from the militia in West Timor as the country's top security minister warned some militiamen may resist the raids.
