1) Japanese activist fights corruption in East Timor 30/10/00 (Asahi Evening News) Kashiwagi was charged with defaming and threatening to kill Xanana Gusmao, the independence movement leader who some observers believe will become the nation's first president.

2) East Timor: Security Council team in Dili, Indonesia next month 30/10/00 (Lusa) An United Nations Security Council delegation, focused on security concerns, will visit East Timor and Indonesia between Nov. 9- 18, UN spokesman Fred Eckhard announced Thursday.

3) Timor militia found with gun similar to dead NZ peacekeeper's 30/10/00 (ABC) The New Zealand Defence Force says the Indonesian army has seized from militia in West Timor, a gun which may have belonged to a New Zealand peacekeeper killed in East Timor.

4) U.N. team to investigate West Timor deaths 30/10/00 (AP) DILI - The U.N. Security Council will dispatch a special team to East Timor next month to investigate the killings of three U.N. foreign aid workers in neighboring Indonesia, a top official said Friday.

5) Suspects in U.N. Timor killings to be tried in Nov 30/10/00 (Reuters) JAKARTA - Six Indonesians suspected over the murder of three foreign U.N. aid workers in West Timor last month will face trial before November 15, possibly in Jakarta, the official Antara news agency said Sunday.

6) Promised Portuguese aid ´very reasonable´ - Dili rep 30/10/00 (Lusa) East Timor´s representative in Portugal Friday described Lisbon´s new aid package for the territory as "quite reasonable", expressing hopes that Dili would know how to apply wisely the promised euros 75 million.

7) U.S. ship brings aid To East Timor 30/10/00 (AP) DILI - A U.S. warship arrived in East Timor on a humanitarian mission Saturday as an Indonesian general invited foreign aid workers to return to the violence-wracked western half of the island.

8) Peacekeepers in hospital following Timor accident 30/10/00 (ABC) Fifteen Australian peacekeepers remain in hospital in Dili this morning after a bus crash on their trip home. Lieutenant Colonel Pat Green from the Australian Army headquarters in East Timor says the brakes on the bus failed, and it overturned.

9) Minister moves to stop disposal of East Timor medical waste in Australia 30/10/00 (ABC) Australia's Northern Territory Health Minister, Steve Dunham, is concerned a permit letting medical waste into Australia from East Timor is still in place.

10) Indonesian public 'don't buy TNI reform claims' JAKARTA (JP): In spite of major internal changes in the Indonesian Military(TNI) over the last two years, many people still perceive civil-military relations in Indonesia as virtually unchanged, according to research published on Saturday.
