Hearing In ISM Activist's Case Dec. 4, 2003

HEARING IN ISM ACTIVIST'S CASE AGAINST THE STATE OF ISRAEL NOW SET FOR THURSDAY, DEC. 4, 2003

[Beit Sahour, West Bank]

Testimony in a lawsuit against the state of Israel filed by International Solidarity Movement volunteer Radhika Sainath is now scheduled to begin in a Tel Aviv courtroom on Thursday, Dec. 4, 2003.

Ms. Sainath, an Indian-American activist from Newport Beach, California, is suing the state of Israel for unlawful imprisonment, negligence and breach of obligations after she was seized by Israeli soldiers in November 2002 in the olive groves of the West Bank village of Jayyous. She is seeking payment of 50,000NIS or approximately US$11,000.

The hearing was originally scheduled for last Thursday, but at that time the state defense attorney succeeded in gaining a one-week postponement of testimony.

Eight other internationals and one Israeli were detained along with Ms. Sainath after observing hundreds of Palestinians pray at the site of olive trees bulldozed for the creation of the "security" Wall. Three of the internationals were deported.

News agencies, Israelis, and Internationals are invited to attend this hearing in support of Radhika Sainath.
