UN PANEL GRANTS $186 MILLION IN DAMAGES ARISING FROM IRAQI INVASION OF KUWAIT

The Geneva-based United Nations Compensation Commission today made available today payments of over $185.8 million in damage awards arising from Iraq's 1990 invasion and subsequent occupation of Kuwait.

The payments went to 22 governments and two international organizations for distribution to 1,160 successful claimants.

To date, the Commission has granted a total of $18.3 billion in claims. Governments and international organizations are obligated to distribute funds to successful claimants expeditiously and to report to the Commission on those actions.
