China Liu Jingsheng's Release From Prison (Taken Question)

Question: What is our reaction to Democracy activist Liu Jingsheng's release from prison?

Answer: We welcome the release of democracy and labor activist Liu Jinsheng from prison. He served his full sentence, reduced by two years for good behavior. We have stated in our annual human rights report and many times in our discussions with the Chinese that it is unacceptable that Chinese citizens be imprisoned for the peaceful expression of their political beliefs. Freedom of expression is a critical element of civil societies that respect the liberties and freedoms of their citizens.
