World Economic Forum: human rights not a choice

World Economic Forum: Amnesty International Secretary General to state that human rights are not a matter of choice

Irene Khan, Amnesty International's Secretary General, will be attending the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos, Switzerland between 26 and 29 January.

As the World Economic Forum's Annual Meeting debates the "tough choices" facing the world, Ms Khan will call on the audience of government and corporate leaders, public figures, and civil society participants, to ensure that -- whatever tough choices the world faces -- respecting human rights is not a matter of choice.

Ms Khan will be making public presentations on the responsibility of the corporate sector to respect and promote human rights. With peace and security on the Davos agenda, and commitment to civil liberties wavering, she will call for human rights to be central to any security agendas.

Ms Khan will also hold bilateral meetings with government representatives and CEOs.
