Somalia: Annan Calls On Authorities to Find And Prosecute Killers of UN Security Officer

New York, Oct 5 2005 5:00PM

United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan today called on the Somali authorities to bring to justice the gunmen who killed a UN security officer Monday night in the Lower Juba region.

Offering his sincere condolences to the friends and family of the slain man, Mohamuud Musse Gurage, he said, through his spokesman: "The brutal murder of Mr. Gurage underscores the difficult security situation the United Nations faces as it attempts to assist the people of Somalia."

The Secretary-General urged the relevant Somali authorities to do their utmost to bring to justice the perpetrators of the crime and called on all Somali parties to work towards establishing a fostering a peaceful society.
