Annan condemns deadly terrorist bombings in India

29 October 2005 – United Nations Secretary-General today condemned the series of deadly terrorist bombings that rocked the Indian capital, New Delhi, and urged the country's Government to prosecute those responsible.

A spokesman for Mr. Annan released a statement in New York saying the Secretary-General is “appalled” by the crime.

“The Secretary-General is particularly shocked that this latest terrorist outrage has occurred on the eve of the major Hindu festival of Diwali,” the spokesman said.

The Indian Government was urged to “bring the perpetrators of these attacks to justice as soon as possible.”
