Knell for Individual Rights

Marjorie

delicate balance radically to the right. Nearly always
favoring the government, corporations and universities,
Alito has ruled against individual rights in 84 percent of
his dissents."

Alito Faces Senators

The
Alito confirmation would almost certainly shift the Court
rightward. Democrats and pro-choice groups have been worried
by a 1985 letter in which Judge Alito - then a 35-year-old
official at President Reagan's Justice Department - came out
against affirmative action and insisted that the right to an
abortion was not protected by the constitution.

Jack
Abramoff, former superlobbyist and newly convicted felon, is
learning how unpleasant disgrace can be. After pleading
guilty last week to federal corruption charges in Washington
and Florida, Mr. Abramoff is now mocked by late-night
comedians and editorial cartoonists.

Michael Rose | Blair Must Be Impeached over
Iraq

the impeachment of Mr Blair is now something I believe must
happen if we are to rekindle interest in the democratic
process."
Jason Leopold: Fitzgerald Maintains Focus on
Rove
http://www.truthout.org/docs_2006/011006Z.shtml
Special
Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald is said to have spent the past
month preparing evidence he will present to a grand jury
alleging that White House Deputy Chief of Staff Karl Rove
knowingly made false statements to FBI and Justice
Department investigators and lied under oath while he was
being questioned about his role in the leak of covert CIA
agent Valerie Plame's identity more than two years ago,
according to sources knowledgeable about the probe.

SPECIAL | Howard Dean: Democrats Took No Money from
Abramoff
http://www.truthout.org/multimedia.htm
On
CNN's Late Edition, Democratic Party Chairman Howard Dean
responded to Wolf Blitzer's attempts to include Democrats in
the Abramoff scandal. Dean pointed out that, according to
the FEC, no Democrats took money from Abramoff. Dean argued
that money from Indian tribes that were clients of Abramoff
is not money from Abramoff. Dean went on to say,
"Republicans would like us to believe that Democrats are
involved ... they're scared and they should
be."
