New tours boost Norfolk activities

Underwater, on land and in mind and body… the selection of interesting things to do on sub-tropical Norfolk Island just keeps getting better.

Long a welcome haven to those who seek the more serene, Norfolk Island is rising to a dawn of nature and sport tourism.

In recent years the selection of outdoor activities on Norfolk Island – surfing, golf, fishing, horseback riding – has flourished. And the development continues in an area of tourism that is showing strong growth world-wide.

Norfolk Touring Co. has recently added three new tours to its stable of specialty and general tours, dinners and shows.

Mind and body are catered for in Norfolk Touring’s new yoga and meditation experience tour. Belying the name of the setting – the beautiful and pristine Cemetery Bay – the programme certainly delivers on the promise to keep you healthy and calm.

Participants in the early morning yoga and meditation classes are urged to close their eyes and breathe in the fresh air and ambience of a rising sun sparkling on the crystal clear waters of the bay, followed by a healthy breakfast on the beach.

Once you have satiated your inner soul, it is probably time to look after the spiritual. What better way than with a ghostly walk and talk.

The two-and-half-hour tour includes a themed dinner – convicts curse liqueur on arrival – and tales from the island’s grisly past delivered by local historian Liz McCoy.

The after-dinner lantern walk takes in local haunts renowned for their ghostly sightings from the 18th century to the present day.

Next day you’ll no doubt need to exercise off the legacy of the previous evening’s sprits with the new Mountain Biking tour.

The brisk scenic mountain bike tour takes in Norfolk’s stunning forest and coastal vistas from aboard the very latest of hi-tech pedal machines.

Under the direction of an experienced guide, frequent stops are made to inspect many of the island’s unique flora and fauna and there are spectacular views of the island’s magnificent coastline prolific with sea bird life. And did we mention that a scrumptious picnic lunch is included?

Last but not least one can enjoy the many snorkeling tours on offer at Norfolk Island. Beneath the surface of the island’s crystal clear Pacific waters lurk few terrors of the deep – but ample opportunities to don mask and snorkel and marvel at an amazing undersea panorama.

There are several snorkeling tours available both for learners in the confines of the beautiful Emily and Slaughter Bays and for the more experienced from boats moored on outer islands or ashore at one of the more remote locations around the island.

Guides are PAID certified and visitors can marvel at the amazing variety of fish, the green turtles and other abundant sealife of Norfolk Island.
