NZ says no request made by Australia to accept
refugees
New Zealand’s Immigration Ministry says it hasn’t
received any request from Australia about resettling asylum
seekers.
This follows Australian media reports that under
the revamped "Pacific Solution", Canberra could try and
settle successful applicants for asylum in countries such as
New Zealand and the Netherlands.
This would follow the
processing of the asylum seekers on offshore detention
centres like on Nauru and Christmas Island.
A ministry
spokesman says the New Zealand government would assess any
request for resettlement on its merits at the
time.
