Australia cancels passport of citizen charged in PNG

An Australian man facing a murder charge in Papua New Guinea says the Australian government has found him guilty already by cancelling his passport.

Rick Harvey Goodwin has been charged with murdering a two-year-old boy killed by a bullet fired when he intervened in a crime gang attack in Port Moresby.

He has been granted a judicial review of his case which could lead to a fresh coronial inquest or the case being quashed.

Mr Goodwin has told the news agency AAP that the Prime Minister John Howard and Foreign Minister Alexander Downer have both made public statements about people being innocent until proven guilty.

He says he is being treated as if he is guilty as charged.

Mr Goodwin has had his passport cancelled by Australian authorities on the grounds he was facing a serious criminal charge in another country.
