Police Assessment Team To Timor Leste

Police Assessment Team To Timor Leste

Police are to send an assessment team to Timor Leste to conduct an on-the-ground assessment of the policing environment and report on options for future involvement said New Zealand Police Commissioner Howard Broad.

The team will be lead by Superintendent Athol Soper, the New Zealand Police liaison officer based in Jakarta, and comprise Superintendent Grant O'Fee, District Commander of the Tasman District, and Ms Jacquelyn Goodwin of the International Service Group at the Office of the Commissioner.

Mr Broad said the team would be in the country for between one to two weeks and would be talking to all key parties to assess what contribution New Zealand Police could make to the rebuilding of police capacity in Timor Leste.

Any decision on what that contribution might be will be subject to the approval of the New Zealand Government.
