Tufele Liamatua to head American Samoa’s status study commission

The Manua District Governor in American Samoa, Tufele Liamatua, has been selected as the chairman of the Future Political Status Study Commission.

The commission is to study and make recommendations on different forms of government that are available to American Samoa which is now an unorganised, unincorporated territory of the United States.

Senator Tuaolo Fruean is the vice chairman.

Chairman Tufele says they have agreed to seek a 60-day extension to the deadline to submit their report, as they have had a late start.

The group was to complete its report by July the 31st.
