Greenpeace International: North Korea Missile Test

STATEMENT FROM GREENPEACE INTERNATIONAL -

North Korea Missile Test

London, International, July 5 2006 -"The dormant volcano of north Asia's military ambitions can only be prevented from eruption by concerted international diplomacy coupled with long term negotiations on nuclear disarmament.

The escalating tension caused by recent developments in North Korea underline the need for all parties to strive for what is the only lasting solution - a nuclear free zone throughout the region.

Rather than lurching from one crisis to another, North Korea, South Korea and the U.S must grasp the opportunity to create a lasting legacy of peace by making this nuclear-free solution a reality.

Diplomacy must replace military posturing if this and other international issues are to be resolved, and it is behoven upon the U.S as the world's leading superpower to demonstrate maturity and intelligence in solving such crises peacefully." Said Nicky Davies, Greenpeace disarmament campaigner.

Greenpeace is an independent, campaigning organisation which uses non-violent, creative confrontation to expose global environmental problems, and to drive solutions essential to a green and peaceful future.
