Solomons report highlights school problems in provinces

A new report claims that Solomon Islands provincial governments are incapable of running their schools and says central government should intervene.

This has been suggested in a discussion paper put before the Ministry of Education and its donor agencies looking at the the way forward for the education sector.

The report says many schools’ dormitories and classrooms are dilapidated while the institutions faced a demand for increased intakes and an expansion into the senior level.

The education sector receives the largest allocation in the government’s recurrent budget with the bulk of the money coming from New Zealand and the European Union.
