Christopher Hill Upon Departure from Beijing

Remarks Upon Departure from Beijing Capital International Airport

Christopher Hill, Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs

Beijing, China
December 23, 2006

Beijing, China December 23, 2006

Assistant Secretary Hill: Have a good holiday. See you next time.

Question: Are you coming back to Beijing?

Assistant Secretary Hill: I'll come back to Beijing but I'm not sure when yet. We'll let you know.

Question: As soon as possible?

Assistant Secretary Hill: At the earliest opportunity, I think, is when we'll come back.

Question: How was Washington's reaction?

Assistant Secretary Hill: How was Washington's reaction? We wanted to make some real progress, so we were a little disappointed with what went on, and we hope that the Pyongyang delegation will go back to their capital, and maybe this time have some instructions.

Question: Any new ideas?

Assistant Secretary Hill: We're going to have some discussions about what we need to do. Have a good holiday. Goodbye.
