Congresswoman Lynn Woolsey is leading efforts to block the Supplemental bill in the House to fund the war. Here's a video (wmv) of her speaking about this at a rally on Sunday in Fresno, California. Here's a video (wmv) of David Swanson on the same topic at the same rally. Here's an edited video (Quicktime) that includes Woolsey, Swanson, and others. Here's a video (wmv) of part of the march through Fresno that preceded the rally. Videos courtesy of Mike Rhodes. Event sponsored by Peace Fresno. Here's a current list of Congress Members planning to vote against funding the war.

Make a few phone calls for peace, please. If we stop this bill, we will compel the Democratic leadership to write a better one. They will not be able to get away with proposing an even worse one, and such a proposal would be virtually indistinguishable from this meritless toothless bill. In the meantime, by organizing the opposition in Congress to this war, we will create an opposition party, a democratic wing of the Democratic Party. That is the party that will pursue the necessary strategy for peace: impeachment.

It may be Friday before we know whether Lee's amendment to fund a withdrawal will be granted a vote. If no vote is allowed, our demand is clear: vote No on the supplemental. If Lee's amendment gets a vote but fails, our demand is the same: vote No on the supplemental. To vote for the Lee amendment and then to vote Yes to fund the war amounts to announcing that you know the war is wrong but will support it anyway. That is unacceptable. Only voting against this war funding is acceptable to the peace movement, also known as the majority of Americans.
