The Peace Forum Humanitarians Appeal
The Forum for Peace calling on Sri Lanka confilicting parties to return to negotiations immediately in order to prevent losses to the people and human sufferings.
Call from Peace Forum to all democratic forces, local and international, to accept the fact that its Sri Lanka current course of action will only bring further tragedy and to therefore join in a genuine effort to find an equitable and just peace through negotiations,"
The Peace Forum seeks to promote resolution of conflict through discussion, in a press release asked 'the people in Sri Lanka and abroad organizations, newspapers, radio and television stations, who are concerned about Democratic Values and Human Rights to help to confilicting parties to return the negotiating table.'
The Peace Forum has pointed out that over 5,000 people have been killed in Sri Lanka over the past year and emphasises that no organization that claims to have the interests of people life at heart can allow this situation to continue.
The Subsequently discussions took place between the representatives in Geneva in February 2006, Negotiations faltered thereafter on several occasions due to Sri Lanka modalities and the last round of talks in Geneva ended inconclusively.
The preference for a negotiated settlement and has called the for resume negotiations. The appeal of the Peace Forum is therefore a timely reminder to the true interests of the people.
