Gun Crime Deaths "Intolerable", Say British PM

Gun crime deaths "intolerable" - PM

The Prime Minister has described the loss of lives through gun crime as "intolerable" and warned of "severe penalties" for offenders.

Speaking to journalists during a visit to Manchester, the PM said the Government was determined to tackle the issue of guns and gangs and to make young people aware of the "large amounts of damage" that occur as a result of gun and gang-related crime.

The PM said:

"I know in Britain that it is unacceptable to the vast majority of the people that guns are held and that's why we want to root out guns as much as possible in every area of the country.

"It is intolerable that any young life is lost, that any family is bereaved, because of gun and gang crime."

Mr Brown and Policing Minister Tony McNulty met with senior police officers and community leaders at the Greenheys police station in Moss Side before going on to a discussion with the Manchester Multi-Agency Gang Strategy (MMAGS) group. The MMAGS partnership is the only intervention organisation of its kind in the UK.
