Media Arrangements For The Funeral Of The Late Private Luke Worsley

* What: Military funeral for the late Private Luke Worsley.

* When: Tuesday, 4 December 2007.

* Where: St. Andrews Cathedral, Sydney.

Background: A military funeral for Private Luke Worsley will be held tomorrow in Sydney. The family of Private Worsley have requested this be a private service and have asked that no media attend.

The Hon Kevin Rudd MP, Prime Minister of Australia; The Hon Dr Brendan Nelson MP, Leader of the Opposition; The Hon Joel Fitzgibbon MP, Minister for Defence; The Chief of Defence Force, Air Chief Marshal Angus Houston; The Chief of Army, Lieutenant General Peter Leahy; Special Operations Commander Australia, Major General Mike Hindmarsh, and; Commanding Officer 4th Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (4RAR) Commando (CDO) Lieutenant Colonel Mark Smethurst will be in attendance.

Media note: A Defence media team will be on-site to provide suitable footage of the service to interested media. The following arrangements will be made:

* Vision recorded by Defence camera operators will be provided to Channel 7 Sydney after the funeral.

* High resolution images of the service will be available from approximately 1:30pm from the Defence website - www.defence.gov.au/media/download

An attendant reason for limiting access to this event is that members of the Commando Company will be part of the funeral service. Due to the nature of their service, they are afforded protected identity status. The only military members who may be photographed are Chief of the Defence Force, Chief of Army and the Special Operations Commander Australia. No imagery revealing the identity of other military members at the service will be released.

Media are requested to note that no recording equipment is authorized onto the Cathedral grounds, except for those used for ADF purposes, in accordance with directions provided by the Cathedral.

There will not be an opportunity for an interview with any members of the Australian Defence Force or members of the Worsley family.
