Subtropical Storm Olga May Bring Flash Flooding and Mudslides to Puerto Rico and Dominican Republic
Potential Increased Showers in Bahamas and Florida

State College, Pa. -- December 11, 2007 -- AccuWeather.com reports the area of disturbed weather near the Virgin Islands has become better organized and is now Subtropical Storm Olga. This system will pass by Puerto Rico and Hispaniola over the next couple of days, bringing locally heavy rain to the islands. The main threat from Olga will be the potential flash flooding and mudslides the heavy rain brings, especially in and near the mountainous regions.

By Wednesday, the combined effects of Olga passing over land and becoming under the influence of shearing, should weaken and gradually dissipate the storm. Moisture from Olga may bring an increase in shower activity to the Bahamas and parts of Florida later in the week. The AccuWeather.com Hurricane Center will closely monitor this storm.

The government of the Dominican Republic has issued a tropical storm warning for the northern coast of the Dominican Republic from Cabo Engaño westward to Bahio de Manzanillo. A tropical storm watch is in effect for the southern coast of the Dominican Republic from Cabo Engano to Punta Palenque.
